Consumer Legislation

Iowa is the only state in the U.S. where a consumer does not have the right to seek damages for deceptive business practices under the state's deceptive trade practices statute.  As a result, consumer fraud flourishes in Iowa.  Iowa continues to be a dumping ground for salvaged vehicles.  Fraudulent appraisals and other abusive lending practices have injured not only consumers, but legitimate businesses, lenders and stockholders.  The economy currently is spiraling into a recession many believe is a direct result of fraud in the real estate market.
