My father lived on social security. He died of small cell lung cancer at 79. He was an avid golfer and got
his third hole in one just a few months before he died. I have no doubt he would still be with us today if he had never
smoked, even though he quit more than 30 years ago after his father,also a smoker, died from emphysema. For those
who think smoking is a matter of individual freedom, my father's medical bills were paid by Medicare and came to more
than $250,000. I can assure you the tax paid on his cigarettes never covered that cost.
