At this point, the payday lender probably owes you more than you owe
it. It is true since they are collecting their own debt, they are not covered by the federal statute. However,
Iowa law does provide some protection. Continuing to contact you after the lender knew or should have known you were
represented by an attorney violates Iowa law. Disclosing the alleged debt to third parties also violates state
unfair debt collection law. Finally, the abusive language is prohibited. You are entitled to recover actual damages,
statutory damages of up to $1,000 and a private attorney can recover reasonable attorney's fees to represent you.
